Here is a suggestion to one and all:

How about putting our collective efforts together in selecting good stocks to invest in? By good, I mean companies with sound fundamentals that represent value and growth. These companies would at least lessen the risk and if ever the stock prices go down, we just have to be patient for them to go up again. The stock price of a company that generates good income and develops good products for expanding markets would not stay low for very long. Sooner or later, the price will catch up with value and good prospects and probably even more. I think this is one reason why X-DEV works so well: prices would always tend to revert back to the mean (the 12-day moving average). Prices would tend to fluctuate between the extremes of exuberance/overoptimism (overbought condition)and fear/overpessimism (oversold condition), but in the long run they will fluctuate and revert to the mean.

Now,if 50 or more of us would make recommendations of say a minimum of 3 stocks a year, that would easily reresent a basket of 150 or more stocks that every one could consider. If every one will put in the effort to analyze and study the stocks that he or she would recommend, then we are all looking at a selection of 150 or so good companies that we can consider further for investment for the year. This significantly narrows down the number of stocks from which to invest (I believe there are over 10,000 stocks of companies being traded in the exchanges.)

I am sure every one of us has some ideas about good companies based on our knowledge, experience, or expertise. I would like to think that there is such diversity among us in selecting good companies whether it be in technology, retailing, entertainment, building materials, etc. Companies based on solid concepts would in all probability be winners. Some of us may even be good in analyzing the financial aspects of the recommended companies and may post their views as their contribution.

Anyway, I would like to sound out everyone about this suggestion. Please express your views as to whether this is a silly idea, a good idea, or a bad idea.
