Many mines were abandoned back when the price was so low. The price of gold has gone WAY UP since then and it is cheaper to pull the gold out of the ground now (better methods).

Regarding the limits per/ton... please provide proof.

I know geologist who have told me about gold mines with much higher gold content than what you imply. You are mistaken.
