Well then you should be smart enough to see the fatal error in your "simple words" post. It would be correct if you were talking naked short, but we weren't.
There's 100 shares out. I borrow 10 and sell them. There's still 100 shares out. I buy 10 back and deliver them to the lender. There's still only 100 shares out.
Now if I naked shorted, no borrow, I'm selling shares that don't exist and then you have your dilution.
