When someone has already reached a state of somnolence it is too late. That person's awareness, insight and judgement has already been compromised. I have numerous time personally thought I could continue driving while I was falling asleep telling myself all I needed to do was to open a window or to turn music up or to just try harder to stay awake. In the meantime, of course, I am endangering both myself and others with this kind of decision. It is really the same phenomenon when an alcoholic gets into a car accident. Not only has their reaction time and coordination been compromised but also their insight into this state of reduced competence. A few vigilance detection device currently being rumored to being developed all detects when a driver is already falling asleep. Mercedes Benz protype, as one example, measures alterations in the usual steering pattrerns. CRAM will be the industry standard because it is the only device capable of proactively warning the driver and the headquarters before their judgement to heed such a warning is impaired. In actuality CRAM is not only the first to the market but also will likely be the only device that will make a significant difference in the real world.
