Jeff, it is understandable that very few would want to publically denounce Madoff. Many get fired or their careers get sidetracted, invesment money leaves their funds if they comment too early. And it isn't like they have ironclad proof, so they take a chance talking publically with no chance of gain.
There was only that one account who complained directly to the SEC.
This is one of the pitfalls of investing. Everyone talks about the positives, most everyone avoids talking about the negatives. Analyst tell investors about stocks that are already up 100%, recommend selling stocks at they dropped 60%. It's the nature of the beast, people won't talk at all till their either get out or accumulate.
