I understand your position, this is my story:

In my 20's I has the head of a phone support team (IT) for a bank, My Boss (my best friend) known him almost all my life, to make a long story short, we had to many problems at work, but after work! He was the good old friend I always new.

He had power issues, inside that bank it was all about him, so after 4 years I resigned, his boss which was my boss also offered me more money to stay, but I didn't. Since everyone wanted him to quit or get fire, when I got to HR they asked me so many questions to try to get him in trouble and I said: Stop trying to get me to talk bad about my boss, because he is like a brother to me. I quit to maintain my friendship, 5 years later I sat with him and told him everything, he apologize to me. He is a little better at work after that.

My point is, you have a friendship also with some of the involved party of MNTY, so I can relate, is like you're between the sword and the wall, us being the sword (LOL, like a samurai one) and the friends involve being the wall.
