you use the smaller timeframes to place a longer term trade? to be honest, i have never had a lot of success doing this. do you just keep taking short term trades until you have built a profit and can let it ride, or do you attempt to 'graduate' from the smaller timeframe to the larger - looking for a breakout type of move.
