As far as I can gather the seeingmachine is fairly primitive and not much of an advance over what has been alredy out there in terms of face tracking and recognition software. We already have had technology for that for years. I remember playing with my instant messaging software that detected my eyelid, lips and some facial expressions and created an alternate cartoon character that I could use to instant message with my nieces who got a real kick out of it. seeingmachine is really just a simple improvement over what has already been out there. Their most recent software release "provides ... 3D head position and orientation is tracked, along with lip and eyebrow shape and position (facial expression)". Another words its sensitivity and specificity should be quite low and I highly doubt much of an improvement over PERCLOS.

Compare this with FOLO/CRAM which was described by the La Presse front page article couple of weeks ago with this:

"The size of a Blackberry, the camera emits infrared waves that catch the first signs of intoxication or somnolence. Installed on the dashboard, analyzing sixty images detailed in 534 points in the driver's face each and every second.

The futuristic device was created in collaboration with the Ecole Polytech University in Montreal. The Quebec car insurance companies follow with interested eyes. The CRAM detects early symptoms of fatigue up to 2 hours in advance. The aim is really to avoid accidents, Raphael Huppe explains.'

FOLO/CRAM is technologically far more advanced than just a face tracking device. This is why it can detect not only when a driver is falling or has already fallen asleep but also even upto 2 hours before this happens.
