It's unfortunate that Briboy's post
was deleted. I read it earlier and saw no TOU violations. It's unfortunate because this board, as stated in the I-box, is for discussion. It's easy to assuage one's own views when there is nothing, or no one, to post in counterpoint. Anyone can make their opinion known amongst like-minded individuals, that's how churches grow :)
"That being said, I do think you're a nice guy and believe you are a genuine caring person but are so extreme in your views and can't come to a conversation without proselytizing that it turns most everyone off."
I agree, he is a very nice and genuine guy.
I give briboy high marks for participating in discussions with Secularists. How else can anyone learn to throw off the shackles of superstition/religion? If memory serves, Briboy was raised a Catholic (the pinnacle pontificate of superstition) and yet moved away from that religion. That takes courage in my view and most importantly, shows a willingness to embark upon a path of knowledge wherever it may lead. Changing our firmly held beliefs is a formidable task.
He is here, he is reading, and so are other 'Christians' that know him and read his posts. Why be obnoxious then? Is it not better for humanity as a whole to replace wishful thinking and superstition with facts, reason and compassion? I believe it is.
I can understand Briboy's dilemma perfectly, as I was raised in a Christian family, and continue to live in one. The power of which is formidable and very difficult to turn 'against' but certainly not impossible. Whether or not he continues on in the Christian faith years from now is irrelevant to me at least, I don't think he needs fixing. It takes a good deal of time to change one's perception of reality, and I think he's intelligent enough to potentially see religion for what I personally believe it to be today.
I would hope that a modicum of respect can be shown to him at the very least on a humanitarian level. He's never berated me for my assaults on religion, and for the most part he's a good deal more tolerable towards non-believers on this board then he's show in kind. I'm nearly certain that some of you probably came from a similar situation as myself, therefore in my opinion at least, a little empathy is deserved.
Personally, I deplore politics. I deplore the politicians because they are all liars and reprobates in my opinion and only heed what's good for their political agenda ie: The retention of power at all costs. To that end, a truism
Everybody wants to rule the world :)
>>subtext, I post as 'suddenly_satan' on RB (actually 'suddenly_satan0' since '04, SS since 2001 :)
see that the post I'm responding to has been removed but I'm sending this anyway because it took me a long time to compose. LOL. F6 can remove it as well.
