At higher temperatures and pressures a pipeline’s natural tendency is to relieve its axial stress by buckling. Left uncontrolled, this buckling can have serious consequences to the integrity of a pipeline. In the past, the industry has relied upon restraining pipelines by trenching and burying or in-line expansion spools. As a solution, Flotation Technologies designed its Buckle Migration Buoyancy Module. Buckle Migration Buoyancy Modules decrease lateral friction and reduce severity of buckle bending by using buoyancy to decrease the operational submerged weight of the pipeline. Buckle Migration Buoyancy Modules are custom designed based on customer specifications and provide integral clamping systems that are able to meet axial and torsion load requirements.
