AdAware isn't a popup remover. It is a spyware cleaner. It finds cookies like doubleclick that store info about your web surfing habits and sell the info. There are pleny of free ad blockers and popup and popunder programs available. Try Cnet, webattack.com, slaughterhouse or ZDNet for plenty of choices.
