The problems you describe were pretty well concentrated on Vista's launch, as many vendors had bad... or no... drivers for various devices.

One other problem is that people have tried to install Vista on machines that don't have the horsepower to run it properly.

Bottom line? XP is an evolutionary dead end. Vista is not.

Many will disagree with me here (and have before), but I personally love Vista. No problems here...
