Yes and no

Usually,, if you get static sparks from walking across your carpet and touching a doorknob, then yes. But that is usually just a problem in wintertime.

In a factory, with machinery and assembly line belts gathering static, it is mandatory.

Otherwise, not a problem. I have never used one. Touch a grounding source every once in a while. Like a faucet.
