centurycom - I'm at a loss like most with regards to the so called settlement. TPL for whatever reasons (and you probably hit the nail on the head) decided to fold. I believe the USPTO reviews, while extremely important, are not the main reason for lack of licensing activity. I think it is the Supreme Court case, LG vs. Quanta, that everyone is waiting on. It is supposed to be decided in June. PTSC has been asking downstream infringers, purchasers and users of infringing chips, to license. We have not gone after many of the manufacturers and producers of the chips themselves. If Quanta wins as I understand it we may not be able to approach these downstream users as infringers, and our only recourse would be to sue manufacturers. This would be a big blow to any and all patent holders, not just PTSC. Unfortunately, I think the SC will rule in favor of Quanta as this will protect many large corporations from patent lawsuits. The present court is a fascist court, almost always siding with the corporate world instead of the individual. There are exceptions, but with the money at stake here I don't think LG has much of a chance. I HOPE I EAT CROW ON THIS AND AM PROVEN WRONG, but my gut says otherwise. The odds are stacked against the patent holders IMO.
