...Tim Niedel had a vision – he wanted to “build a better mousetrap.” In this case, the “mousetrap” just happened to be a UV-free tanning booth. With the help of five engineers and many hours of diligent research, the first MagicTan unit was launched more than 15 months ago. Since then, the company has sold over 500 of its sophisticated sunless tanning systems all over the world. With such an early success already under their collective belts, everyone at MagicTan, LLC is anxious to see what the upcoming tanning season has in store...
...Engineered for Results
As most in the tanning industry are aware, sunless tanning is no fad – it appears to be here to stay as an additional service for tanning salons. Tim was aware of this, too; which is why he knew he needed to make the highest quality sunless booth possible in order to be competitive in the rapidly growing sunless market.
To achieve this noble goal, he worked with five engineers to design the MagicTan unit. The booth features 36 nozzles – nine banks of four nozzles each – that spray the tanner with sunless solution gradually from their feet all the way up to their head. A MagicTan session requires a tanner to turn their body four times for a nice, even tan. “The whole process takes less than a minute to complete,” Tim added. “It’s really amazing!” He relied on his good friend Paul Spivak, whom Tim describes as one of the most brilliant engineers he has ever met, for the basic design of the MagicTan booth. He also credits engineers Nick Mastandrea and Scott Thomason for the success of the sunless unit. The two had previous careers in the medical equipment industry, where they designed and manufactured high-tech MRI machines for hospitals.
