"Almost destroyed" is a gross exaggeration.

Pottruck was on the board of Intel long before Chuck fired him.

The surprise is that he still remains.

As to why Chuck fired him. That is a well guarded mystery. True the stock price had languished, and that was given as the official reason, but Chuck would not have done that.

This is a wild ass guess, but Chuck may have fired him because Pottruck doesn't know squat about computers.

I am guessing here, because I have NO information, but Chuck believes that the future of Charles Schwab depends providing good cheap viable service to it customers, and the only thing Pottruck could do is buy companies like U.S. Trust which turned out to be a pain in the neck and Schwab co later sold it.

Pottruck is a face man. Looks good, talks good, but doesn't DO anything.
