I agree, its personal to each person.
You are also correct that one need not be directly engaged in combat to be "combat harden"
or experience "shell shock," for I'm sure the late good doctor Zeev Hed "cup runneth over"
with his parents murdered and daughter living in a nation under attack.
We all heard of extreme mental and physical anguish suffered by people through acts of nature
or the deliberate or indifference of other people.
