As for your question, it would not appear to be a breach of religion to prohibit abortions before a certain date in the term of pregnancy. I am unaware of any religion that compels free choice, except with respect to saving the life of a mother.
The issues will become even more complex as we move forward, because science is progressing so rapidly that we will undoubtedly be able to sustain a premature fetus to birth earlier and earlier in the term. What happens if science allows us to nurture a two month-old fetus to a healthy life? Under those circumstances, what argument could an expectant mother make that would authorize termination of the pregnancy, especially if government agrees to pay for the process and support the child financially....
