I guess that's easier than harvesting stem cells from every individual and going through the whole process of differentiation, eh? It seems that the coating is a fairly straight-forward process compared to the rest of it. I would guess that in terms of cost its easier to mass produce insulin secreting cells from a single predictable cell line.
