World energy consumption is projected to increase 57% from 2004 to 2030 at an average annual rate of 1.8% per year, due to strong GDP growth over the next 25 years that will be higher than the rate recorded over the last 25 years. Energy demand is expected to reach 17.7 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, compared with 11.4 billion tonnes in 2005. Electricity use will double, its share of final energy consumption rising from 17% to 22%.
