Not smart enough to say anything about "EDGE" other than it appears to be a more efficient way of using the same basic GSM air interface, i.e., software running on top of a GSM physical layer in "EDGE" applications manages the signal content in a way that creates higher transfer rates than GSM was originally designed for. Since IDCC has IPR contributions in the GSM air interface, it makes sense folks would need to license for that same stuff in their "EDGE" applications.
