Time out! (Please.) We are letting acronyms get in the way of effective communication. In post 59339 Data_Rox mentioned that some might want to keep up with the "3G patent pool" by looking at the "breakdown by percentage by company for WCDMA and CDMA2000" as discussed in a DoCoMo document link provided.

The title of that document is "3G Patent Platform" and I referred to it as "3GPP" in post 59366. My bad. I should have referred to it as the "3G Patent Platform" when I said it's hokum as far as IDCC investors are concerned. I stand by that opinion. IMO that "3G Patent Platform" is nothing more than a rate negotiating cabal. InterDigital is NOT a member of the "3G Patent Platform" and does not want to be. That group's purpose is lower IPR royalties. They are on the OTHER side of what we want.

Hold your horses just a second please. In post 59376 olddog talks about the REAL "3GPP", i.e., the "3G Partership Project". THAT 3GPP is responsible for coordinating standards definition work between the other standards organizations and it IS important. InterDigital IS a member of THAT 3GPP organization through ETSI, and through their work in the UMTS IPR Working Group. IDCC's Brian Kearsey is even quoted in the document referenced.

Net/net we see that InterDigital IS involved in the standards setting bodies for 3G, but is NOT involved in any organizations negotiating for a "group rate" on IPR licensing. I like that because I expect InterDigital to get paid at "fair and equitable" rates for use of their IPR in 3G. Rates higher than Nokia and others want to pay.
