Well, I hate to seem hard-hearted, but while he may have been a nice old fellow, he was also a fool. He obviously didn't do his research. You tried to inform him, but he obviously didn't listen to you.

I think people are responsible for their actions. He chose to invest in something he didn't know enough about. He chose to invest in an area which, with just a little research or a call to a reputable broker, he would have known to steer clear of. He chose to lose his money. He may not have known he was making that choice, but the fact is that he did.

He was stupid, and he paid the price. That's the way individual responsibility works.

It's his wife I feel sorry for. She did nothing wrong but trust her husband. But, as the Mills Brothers sang, "we always hurt the ones we love, the ones we shouldn't hurt at all."

Maybe you should put that story (cleaned up a bit) in the ibox of your new thread. Then if people keep on gambling (I refuse to call it investing) in penny stocks, they can't say they weren't warned.

And then you can sleep comfortably knowing that you tried, but you can't save stupid and greedy people from their own stupidity and greed. Been tried by people a lot smarter than you or me. Can't be done.
