Aiming, Cortex went through much of the unsuccessful defense of CX-717/artifact without the benefit of a CMO, relying instead on outside consultants. Cortex also has never had a real CFO, instead relying on the blonde secretary to fill the role officially, but with Stoll/others doing most of the actual money raising work.

Having an experienced CMO to help with the CX-717 tox defense would have been money well spent. After Mansbach left, Stoll didn't replace him, probably to save money.
