My best friend, who is the most intelligent person I know and more than a little intolerant of people who aren't within 10% of his IQ (okay, he's an a-hole -- but when I tell him he's slipping into that mode, his retort is "Slipping into?!? I'm always there!") was in attendance at one of my BBS parties, and another participant, an old friend of mine I used to league bowl with mentioned some new software that was coming out.

He said "I hear it's being written in 'beta'".

To which my friend immediately replied "Good thing. Alpha's not very reliable."

I hope John will participate in discussions here sometimes. Most brilliant guy I know and I've never known anyone who's quicker at snappy comebacks. I've told him it must seem like the straight lines are coming at him in slow motion.

He'd also be a great resource in Computer Learning. A lot of the stuff that had to be done to make things work the way they do had to be done by him. Both Matt and I have had to rely on him for the toughies. He's got every MSFT certification that's available and a lot of non-MSFT ones and I don't think I've ever heard him say "I don't know" or "I'll have to look that one up" in response to any computer question.
