Dream Machine

I go to start, then shut down, the window appears, I choose shut down, it ignores me.

No error message, nothing.

Then I have to do a hard shut down (eventually, cuz I have tried to wait it out). When I boot up later, it never shows a ...blah blah you recovered from an error.
It acts as though nothing ever happened.
