Accelerating Trustworthy Internetworking Workshop

Background of Workshop
Driven by a post-9/11 urgency to address Global Challenges for critical applications, the goal of this workshop is to accelerate progress towards high-grade commercial security for internetworking applications, including its explicit design throughout the system. There is a growing recognition of the increased potential value to users and developers of a new generation of trustworthy internetworking capability for critical and pervasive applications. Federated IPv6 and IPv4/IPsec testbeds with enhanced security are emerging to provide the bitways for a global grid of dynamic services. Families of interactive devices for humans along with sensors and effectors in the physical world provide a dynamic cyber-physical space interface. A new trustworthy internetworking system architecture is emerging as ensembles of generalized peer-to-peer systems with progressive global grid access to enable a new generation of critical and pervasive applications. This workshop is the second in a series of ATI events organized to facilitate collaborations in the emerging interdisciplinary trustworthy internetworking community.

Purpose of Workshop
This workshop is focused on initiating cooperative activities to accelerate research and the deployment of testbeds for critical and pervasive applications across academia, industry, and government incorporating advanced information technologies, to help achieve strategic advantage in responding to the 9/11 Global Challenges of the 21st century. This workshop will bring together computer scientists in security, networking, and software engineering among others to work with application scientists and engineers to provide useful insight into and guidance for the development of common goals across many pervasive and critical application domains.

Testbeds for Critical and Pervasive Applications
This workshop will identify technology needs and major testbed problems in science and engineering research areas of interest to the National Science Foundation (NSF), and other Federal agencies with operational requirements in national and homeland security and industry to scope out the technical and resource requirements for achieving significant progress on the global challenges of Digital Government, National Security, Economic Crime, Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security. This workshop will help identify major issues, key personnel and agencies, and the technologies needed to deploy R&D prototypes, testbeds to support critical and pervasive applications
