Of course it's blowback from our attempts to dominate the politics of the region. Does anyone dispute that? These were Cold War strategies in a era where the communists were attempting to expand their sphere of influence thereby gaining a monopoly over critical territories that controlled access to vital resources including oil and gas in the Middle East. How different might the outcome of our struggle against global communism been had the Soviets been in control of those energy resources? Those resources are more critical than ever to the GROWTH story Wall Street and our politicians have to sell.

I never considered joining the military. The first war after I became eligible was after I was married with children. Now I'm 47 and I don't think they'd want me. Anyway, understanding and explaining the rationale for our bombing, invasion and occupation isn't the same as promoting war. I'll tell you this though. THE most deluded people in this discussion are the partisan Democrats who don't realize that 100% of their leadership is 100% behind the war and was from the getgo. There's too much at stake for our corporate masters to let this battle hinge on the whims of the voters who might select Ms Tweedledee this time around instead of Tweedledumb.
