It's a provisional injunction.

Something granted to protect a plaintiff's rights before trial.

It's not automatic. A judge has to investigate and rule whether the plaintiff's rights are threatened. In this case, they thought so.

It is in effect until the case is settled, in court or not, or unless the judge rules otherwise.

A permanent injunction would come from a formal trial.

It is telling that a preliminary injunction was granted without trial.
