Book predicts India-US war in 2017

NEW DELHI, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- India's former military Chief Gen. Padmanabhan has penned a book predicting a war between India and the United States in the year 2017.

"The Writing on the Wall: India Checkmates America 2017," by Padmanabhan, who retired as Indian military chief 13 months ago, has raised several eyebrows since India and the United States have been warming up to each other in recent months.

Padmanabhan's book, due to be released Thursday, paints the U.S. as India's biggest threat.

"Just look at their actions in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, against Iraq's neighbor. As India becomes a bigger power, America will see it as a threat," the former military chief told reporters Monday.

The book describes the U.S. a "rogue state and rogue superpower, which will stop at nothing in the pursuit of its national interests."

The book describes a war in 2017, between India and the U.S. that insists on supporting Pakistani terrorism.

The fictional war with U.S. only lasts 60 hours as India -- with Chinese and Russian help -- proves to be more than a match for U.S. strategy.

As to the current level of friendship between New Delhi and Washington, Padmanabhan said there are no permanent friends and no permanent interests.
