No, doug I see it like Linux. They are getting adoption based on competitive price and better technology. However the adoption is slow because no one gets fired for buying Xeon. This is a winning strategy and would have worked given enough time.

Intel changed the game. They will offer the same tech just a little late. The question is will AMD have enough momentum and more importantly manufacturing muscle to keep them in the game when Intel floods the market.

I see two possible outcomes. First, AMD picks up some market share (a la 1999-2000) until Intel's chip comes out and then they revert to the status quo. Or, AMD can get seeded in enough data centers that they can change the game to being more Airbus/Boeing with a larger share of the market. This will depend on execution and manufacturing (these are risk factors that AMD has not consistently been able to overcome).
