Loop,
Beginning to think that we are singing from the same gospel. Mine goes something like this - "Hmmmm.... If you are a little wireless engineering firm with leading edge tech, it's way past time to stop waiting for the big boys to roll over and license. Put the strength of your patent portfolio into a neat and tidy commercial package, and then LAUNCH those heat seeking missiles right up their tailpipes!,...Vaa dah Da dumpth!"
Will confess that my enthusiasm for such an approach has rutts(i.e., "roots" for those who do not speak the Texas and/or Southeastern U.S. dialects).
Waited until the crowd had cleared after IDCC's 2001 ASM to button-hole Rip Tilden with an idea. Suggested that IDCC file a trademark for the term "WorkPort" and then make themselves known as the firm with the "right stuff" for high performance in wireless. Begin marketing a line of premium priced wireless plug-in cards for laptops and PDAs that could move big multi-media chunks of wireless internet data faster than anybody else. Told him that the road warriors with expense accounts for stuff like that would pay whatever IDCC wanted to charge to have the best, and that "WorkPort" was the ticket to ride.
When I saw that his eyes were glazed over I realized that he was just a smooth talking dud, but this big chuckwagon was on a roll. Tried my best to awaken what I hoped was his sleeping intellect with visions of IDCC products leading the headlines in wireless tech journals and being recognized as the hot setup to have, but nobody was home. He was cordial as he kept moving toward the "down" esculator, but his feet kept moving that way. Needless to say, this IDCC shareholder shed no tears when he departed.
Same thing with Briancon, but worse. He "got" what I was saying right away, but he proceeded to spin it into something that would make him look like a genius instead of something that would make IDCC more profitable. Tried it on Goldberg and got nada. After listening indifferently his response had a lot of the same terms, but I still do not have any idea how to decode his complete and total deflection.
Change is good, looking forward to seeing what Bill Merritt delivers.
