Of the stores you listed here Nelson would probably be in the same category as Sulja. Home Depot and Home Hardware are lumber department stores like Lowe's.

Despite all of these stores being in Alberta, there is still a market. I know a little about the lumber business. My father has been in it for 35 years. While it is second-hand experience, the clientele of the lumber department store is very different from a building supply store. Contractors rarely visit the Home Depot and Lowe's of the world. They deal specifically with places like 84 Lumber, Hope Lumber, and Stock Building Supply. Sulja falls into this category. Trust me, contractors are not so loyal to their supplier. They want the best deal for the least amount of money. If Sulja can provide that, then they have nothing to worry about, and the Home Depot's and Home Hardware's of the world will continue to serve the individual home owner. Not to say a contractor won't buy something from a Lowe's or Home Depot, they most certainly will, but for lumber and windows, etc, they want the building supply stores.

There are probably other lumber and supply stores that you have not listed in the Alberta area that fall under that category of lumber and supply store. No one said there wouldn't be competition.

And then on the flip side, Sulja still has it's eyes on the international picture which may make the Alberta move pale in comparision.
