Most of the historical issues/remarks, Lwlg has addressed and by my understanding, solved.
My friend was very enthusiastic about the Telcordia results, rightfully so.
If you read Jeunke’s post below, I think he sums it up pretty well. CPO for 400G+ scalability with little to no insertion loss, very good linearity of the refractive index with changing electric field for the Pockels effect, applicability to multiple Silicon wafer layout designs (eg. Microrings,…), packaging, next to the well known advantage of low voltage requirement of the lightswitch (and thus energy concumption),…

The biggest concern was thus not found in the science (at least not as far as I could understand), but in the pdk’s and actual transferability to a “new set of hands”.
Engineers/scientists from Lwlg most likely have the process down to an art by now. But even the “easiest” of processes, don’t always bring the same results when performed by another person.
We call it the In-house-bias. In Biochemistry and Biotech this is a very well know issue.
Not being able to reliably reproduce the top-end results Lwlg itself it getting, may hinder the integration of the tech.
This was the biggest concern of my friend.
