Let me correct a few things here, I am not a shareholder of NLM, I was in Enosemi, they were using NLM's polymer and they were taken over by AMD, we were cashed out, apparently AMD ended the relationship with NLM and did the takeover for Eno's other technology.
The KCC story was a few years od, however, he has a couple other reasons to be congratulated for.
And Micro is correct they are not even close, so IMO they are a nothing burger. Lightwave offers PDK's that can be built in numerous foundries plus the ability to use software to design chips with the ability to enable them to grab the design detail for the waveguides width debth, electro placement, voltage requirement, length, depth whatever versions of perkinamine that are available to them make the chip, then cover with ALD which protects it AND virtually test the performance before any runs, that is big F'ing deal. So yes, I would say apples and oranges, that Brad character at NLM reminds me of a "me too" wanna be. His background cannot hold a candle to the talent at Lightwave.
X I wish them luck but I'm going to take the high road as they say NLM has quiete a few milestones that they have yet to accomplish.
