A "DOG" (Dismissed As Improvidently Granted) is a potential, though uncommon, outcome where the Supreme Court decides not to rule on a case after hearing oral arguments. If justices realize during arguments that the case is not suitable for resolving the legal issues, they may choose to dismiss it rather than issue a ruling.

What is a DOG? A "Dismissed As Improvidently Granted" (often shortened to DIG or DOG) order means the Court granted review (certiorari) but later decided the case was not the right vehicle for a decision.
