This is not unlike Interdigital.  They supply the IP that makes wireless and video work. Since they license pretty much every one of size and are neutral they are often the chairperson or have a big roll on the various standards committees. Not making cellphones or TV’s themselves, this being “neutral” has helped them get their technology into every cellphone and TV on them planet.
