Amprius’ customers include Amazon as well as US aerospace engineering firm ES Aero. Nokia has also used Amprius’ batteries in a drone-based 5G project recently.

Another reason why Amprius is adding South Korea as one of its production hub is to follow the US National Defense Authorization Act. The US government strictly limits where battery cells and core components should be made. There is increasing call for batteries made outside of China.

Besides those for drones, Amprius plans to focus on premium battery production in South Korea. Its batteries use silicon anode with an energy density of 300 to 450Wh per kg. Its high-end batteries offer 500Wh, much higher than graphite anode batteries that offer 260 to 300Wh. Its batteries are used in drones, high altitude platform stations, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. Amprius’ SiCore battery was used in Airbus’ Zephyr high altitude platform station aircraft.
