Lightwave Logic issued a press release on January 3, 2022, announcing the publication of a patent application that included the use of diamondoid molecular groups to improve the stability and performance of its proprietary electro-optic polymers.

The patent application, titled "Nonlinear Optical Chromophores Having a Diamondoid Group Attached Thereto, Methods of Preparing the Same, and Uses Thereof", detailed a materials chemistry invention. The diamondoid groups attached to the core chromophore structure were found to significantly enhance the overall material robustness and thermal stability needed for high-volume, commercial-grade applications in data centers. This technology aims to enable the development of high-speed, low-power electro-optic polymer modulators that can operate efficiently within existing silicon foundry processes.
The corresponding U.S. Patent, number 11,921,401, was later granted on March 5, 2024.
