RIP Ostriches.

To little surprise, the Supreme Court of Canada denied the appeal by Universal Ostrich Farm. The denial was made public Thursday morning, and on Thursday afternoon the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and their marksman arrived and quickly shot and killed all 300-400 ostriches.

BC is already is turmoil over the recent Aboriginal Land Claim ruling which could potentially place all private land ownership in the Province in question. If the authority of the Federal Government to enforce their bird flu containment procedures were to be clipped by the Court, it would really upend the situation, as that could potentially be used to delay, or even halt, Federal authority across the board.

No word on what they are doing with the carcasses and if any will be turned over to research labs for studies about bird flu resistance.
