It is pretty much impossible, even with charts, to forecast hit pieces (2 major ones recently). Yahoo finance has AVXL as the 13th highest shorted stock. Think about that. You have been around stocks long enough to know that "news trumps charts". All of us here TA and FA are just doing the best we can when facing extreme negative manipulation. It is what it is. What has been applicable for over a decade? "Buy dips and sell rips." Just another one currently.

For the 30 days since Sept 15 shorts have increased their positions by 6%. They are all over AVXL to stop a short squeeze if approval comes or to start covering down here IMO. Will find answers one way or the other soon.

AI Overview
Anavex Life Sciences (AVXL) is one of the most heavily shorted stocks, with short interest representing approximately 32% to 34.8% of its public float as of the latest data from mid-October 2025. While it consistently ranks high, an exact overall market rank can fluctuate daily.
AVXL Short Interest Details (as of Oct 15, 2025)
Metric Value
Short Interest % of Float ~32.0% - 34.8%
Total Shares Short ~26.62 million
Days to Cover ~15.5 to 23.8 days
Change from Previous Month Increased by approximately 6%
Ranking Context
High Percentage: A short interest percentage above 10% is generally considered high, and anything over 20% is extremely high. AVXL's percentage puts it in a category with some of the most shorted stocks on major US exchanges.
Top 10/20 Range: While daily rankings change, stocks with this level of short interest are typically among the top 10 to 20 most shorted stocks by percentage of float nationally.
Industry Context: It ranks highly within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors for short interest.
The high "days to cover" ratio indicates that it would take several days of average trading volume for all short sellers to exit their positions, which could lead to significant price volatility (a potential "short squeeze") if positive news were to emerge.
