Large companies that own a large market share will pay up high for a merger candidate for its highly useful technology and to prevent that merger candidate from being acquired by a competitor.

Remember the 2014 buyout of WhatsApp by Facebook for 19 billion dollars? It was a useful technology but the high price was to keep it from competitors who would gain millions of users and challenging Facebook for market share.

I am not suggesting LWLG will be bought for such a price. Any future buyout will depend on the true value of the technology. We do not know that value but an acquiring company involved with LWLG would have more knowledge of the potential value plus the risk of a competitor owning LWLG technology. The big companies involved with AI look years ahead to determine such value. I can’t predict the future but with a lack of other materials offering similar benefits for future generations of modulators, we can be surprised at some point down the line.
