When someone continues to assert something is false without actually refuting your argument, they may be exhibiting confirmation bias, stubbornness, or using a logical fallacy such as an argument from ignorance or special pleading. While "false dichotomy" also describes a type of limited reasoning, an argument from ignorance is more specific to a lack of evidence.
