That's awesome. Successful faith-based films followed a well-worn production template that satisfies their target audience while minimizing costs by:
1) Employing Lesser-Known Actors, or Former (less costly) Hollywood Stars
2) Adopting stories that are Relatable & Low-Concept: Movies that track an everyday character's struggle with faith. So there is no need for over-the-top effects or highly complex plotting. These stories index on relatability &, ultimately, a resolution that affirms the protagonist's commitment to spiritual/religious values
3) Present counter-culture programming: Faith-driven movies are often belittled by critics & online ratings, a product of poor production value (stemming from low budgets), a bias against their subject matter, &, well, the fact that some are quite bad. Critics tend to pile on poorly-received Christian films, like in the case of 2015's War Room when media outlets began compiling meta-analyses of the movie's overwhelmingly negative reviews -- & people click on this stuff!
Such that even the most savagely-reviewed Christian films are overwhelmingly profitable! When we group films by average user reviews & sort them into quality quartiles, faith-based projects show exceptional returns across the board, demonstrating strong performance for poorly reviewed projects & critically acclaimed films: With at least 50% of movies achieving profitability, no matter their critical reception
Moreover, when we analyze the average production budget by story format, faith-based films are typically cheaper to produce. And with 50%+ of their movies achieving profitability there is a reasonable risk vs reward that is greater than Hollywood productions. Which makes these films a better fit for HHSE & its shareholders
Remember Mel Gibson's The Passion of The Christ. No one in Hollywood wanted to touch it. The film was a GLOBAL SUCCESS & made many many multiples of what it cost to make @ $30M, the film returned ~$675,000,000.00 in today's inflation adj dollars & did ~$622M World-Wide! I'm sure those who HAD the opportunity to finance the film, & realize a MASSIVE ROI, were very displeased with themselves!
