Sounds like he has been hired to resolve bottlenecks with reliability issues. The PR literally says he’s there for “advancing the technical attributes”. That’s engineering speak for enhancing the capabilities of the product.

It may be that those bottlenecks are the reason Mark L said that he thinks Coherent isn’t very interested in polymers.

The reality may be that Coherent had to turn down Lightwaves requests to partner because of the failure to meet the tests beyond the 85/85. Mark L alluded to the great number of tests that still need to be passed and he outright saiid aboit the 85/85 that companies are not going to be convinced by a PR. Maybe in fact, pumpkin is right and that they are questioning how those 85/85 tests were performed even.

Dr. Thompson, however, may have seen some promise in these polymers.

Recall that YVES was quoted as saying that their polymers are “now demonstrating” viability. It was an odd choice of words. He didn’t say.”have now demonstrated” as though it’s a done deal.

Reliability has always been the big bugaboo here for the last 15 years. It sounds like the company is getting closer but damn they sure are keeping investors in the dark.

Look closely at what Mark L said about the reliability PR. He said he couldn’t believe what an optical solutions company told him. And it did not sound like it was a positive thing.

So yeah, I’m gonna stay on the side of skepticism. On the one hand someone of Dr. Thompson’s caliber is very positive. On the other it’s just more evidence that what I’m saying about there being reliability bottlenecks is right on the money.
