WTF? This doesn’t sound good!
New article on AZ trials written by Sabbagh & C°. I have some difficulties with Sabbagh (?) stating the last sentence mentioned here below.
"A crucial consideration is that, unlike the other therapeutics mentioned in this commentary, S1R activation covers a broad range of disease mechanisms... and has high potential for adverse effects due to the numerous functions regulated by S1R, such as inflammation, mitochondrial function, and neurotransmission. For example, blarcamesine is known to activate the muscarinic M1 and NMDA receptors, with the latter being implicated in brain hyperactivity.
Thus, further research is needed to test this molecule for the slowing of AD progression.
In addition, this type of drug will likely necessitate a shuttle carrier for brain delivery in order to prevent peripheral off-target actions. This compound is likely going to require a longer period of clinical testing before requests for commercialization can be filed.
