Maybe. But in reality, getting a Ph.D in the humanities went out of fashion by the early '90s. Does that mean the cycle will continue, and find itself once more at its beginning? We shall see; that's actually a pretty complicated question. Since from the beginning of civilization we've been studying what we did and what we knew, now that we're doing some things that are quite different it might not be a bad idea to study them.

How would we do that? I don't know. We'll have to improvise for a while, but that's not bad.

But really, getting a Ph.D in the humanities has never really been anyone's definition of "making it". But clearly, Sam Bankman Fried and Simon Schama would have different ideas about that...
