It's been nearly a decade since I received my stem cells at City of Hope, on the same day another gentleman I met got his own stem cells, and three days later his own T-cells modified by COH. I'm sure all the work had been done in a cleanroom there and I suspect if they were doing it today, it would still be done manually in a cleanroom.
I don't know that without modifications the EDEN Unit could do precisely what they do manually, but I believe that with modifications FlaskWorks can make it happen. COH was one of the leaders in the development of CAR-T and my Dr. was in charge of their efforts. The patient I mentioned had a 107 fever immediately after receiving his T-cells, clearly they managed it and he was doing fine when I met him several weeks later. Because all cells used were his own, he only needed to check in every two weeks as rejection wasn't a problem, I was still coming in twice a week because of the possibility of rejection.
I don't know that CAR-T anywhere is very different than what was being done at COH. Even back then my Dr. told me it's not something he wanted to put me through, but I suspect that if there were no other option, and I wanted it, he'd take the risk, but at my age it would certainly be considered very high risk. My stem cells were considered high risk at the time I got them for people over 70, I was one of the first, now they're doing it for people over 80.
FlaskWorks could be the answer to many personalized products, if NWBO chooses to use the company in that way. I don't believe that the EDEN can simply do it all, but FlaskWorks can create other similar devices, using certain of the patents they already have, as well as new ones to cover the needed changes. By themselves they could become a major profit center.
