Matthew Collins' Glioblastoma Journey: From Despair to Disappearance.

On July 24, 2023, Matthew Collins experienced his first symptoms of what would later be diagnosed as glioblastoma (GBM), a highly aggressive brain cancer. Following months of uncertainty, he underwent surgery on October 7, 2023, which confirmed a grade 4 brain tumour. With too little tissue saved during the operation, only four doses of the personalized DCVax-L vaccine could be manufactured.

To access the costly treatment, Matt launched a GoFundMe, raising nearly £200,000. On Valentine’s Day 2024, he received his first vaccine dose — but by early March, an MRI revealed tumour recurrence in a new, inoperable area of the brain. Despite this devastating news, something extraordinary began to happen.

On MRI after MRI, the tumour began to shrink — from 3cm in March to 8mm by February 2025 — and as of May 27, 2025, the once inoperable tumour was no longer visible. His oncologists, including Professor Ashkan, opted against further surgery due to the tumour’s deep location, a choice now vindicated by its spontaneous regression.

Throughout this time, Matt pursued every avenue available — from chemotherapy and oncothermia to radical lifestyle changes, all while maintaining a sense of humor, hope, and honesty about the brutal realities of living with terminal cancer.

In Matt’s own words:

>

“My inoperable recurred tumour is no longer visible on my MRI. It’s shrunk down from 3cm to nothing... From being given months to live, I’m figuring out a way to manage terminal cancer... True healing comes from nature and within you.”

Matt’s story is a testament to the power of community support, innovative immunotherapy like DCVax-L, and the resilience of the human spirit. From a bleak prognosis to an MRI showing no visible tumour, his journey offers a spark of hope in one of medicine’s darkest territories.

A team photo (minus Chubbs) from last week's Kick Cancer's Head In Cup with Quantum Advisory to let everyone know I've received my MRI results this afternoon. Appropriate that a crap photo that I am unable to fix shows the light shining on us. Serendipity.

My inoperable recurred tumour is no longer visible on my scan. It's shrunk down from 3cm to nothing, pestilence, a seed. Just the damaged remains of where it once was. And while the stem cells will always be there - floating around my brain looking for the next place to pop up - this is the best result I could have hoped for.

From being given months to live, I'm figuring out a way to manage terminal cancer, and I am strangely grateful to it for the lessons it has taught me. True healing comes from nature and within you; your mindset and belief in your body's ability to heal from any disease. You can change your health by radically changing the way you live and what you decide to put into your body.

Forever grateful for everyone's support over the last 18 months.

Stay beautiful ❤️

I haven’t updated in a while. I’ve been coming to terms with my recent scan, which showed new growth in a different location in my brain. The team is unsure whether a second operation is possible as it’s much deeper in my brain than the previous tumour, but I’m having another scan on 30 April to see if the latest chemo is working, plus give a chance for the DcVax to do its thing. I’ve had my fourth dose, which, coupled with the additional hospital fees, shipping and consultation costs, has now wiped out my fundraiser. In addition, I’m having oncothermia treatment with Dr Paul Mulholland, which I have alongside my chemo. It’s £1000 session, and I’ll need to have 20+ sessions for it to be effective
