There were 2 big up periods for AVXL in 2021. The 2/3/21 to 2/4/21 which trailed by one day the even bigger moves in SAVA (other AD plays like ANVS also moved big). Seeking alpha had a couple articles during those 2 days relating AVXL to SAVA. There was no company news. Surprisingly, looking at the short interest below, there was not a bump --- possibly some shorted and quickly exited 2-3 days later - the move up and down were both rapid. Short interest actually went down so a few shorts got burned but there were not enough shares short to fuel a squeeze.

On the other hand the June 2021 increase occurred during a flurry of PR's including the PD data. Short interest went up 2 MM shares as traders realized they reported an endpoint related to the primary but not the actual primary endpoint and correctly assuming AVXL would raise funds during teh upturn. .
